1903-1911 Burgess Roll "house" vs "dwelling house"
« on: Saturday 04 May 24 18:10 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea what the difference between a "dwelling house" and a "house" is on a Burgess Roll?

The dates I have currently researched are between 1903-1911 (I'm researching the history of residents of my house).

It seems to be fairly consistent that when a female name is listed, the property is listed as "house", whereas if it's a male name, it's listed as "dwelling house".

Does anyone know if this has any significance, or just some kind of standard at the time?

This is in North Tyneside if that helps.

Many thanks!
