Thank you all for helping me with this. I and many other people who had Eliza on their tree had a bunch of things not totally right. I noticed that when I couldn't find birth registration that line up for all the children.

Eliza nee Whiteman's Death makes more sense now. it's the clip says she died of Syncope (passing out) sadly it was likely drug related. Eliza's sister Sarah died of an opioid overdose it is possible that was also Eliza's true cause of death.

that 1901 census posted her is the correct family

The other Elizabeth nee smith as Josephe's first wife makes sense. The children's birth registrations all work with this.

So, in summery If I got this right

but am not positive that this is the same William King

No, I don’t believe they separated.
In 1871 census, William King is a lodger, along with 4 other miners from Derbyshire who were working in Yorkshire. They had probably gone there for temporary work, and were staying for a short time with the family of Mary & James Fisher (also a miner).

Probably William King died in 1872 Basford age 25 – Have you got this certificate to check it is for the correct person? It will also tell you cause of death. Only costs £2.50.

He did not have an earlier marriage or children with another partner.

Eliza came to the marriage with 2 illegitimate children, William Henry and Sarah Ann. They are with her in the 1871 census.

You will find their births registered under the surname Whiteman. The biological father may well have been William, but when the children were born, Eliza was not married to him, so they are registered under her name.
