GRO page, after "maintenance"
« on: Saturday 11 May 24 14:02 BST (UK) »
It's not just me, is it?

Went to order a digital image, but when I got to the Proceed with Payment page, it cuts off after the order total. There doesn't seem to be any way to actually pay for what I want!

Nor does the Feedback page work - keeps telling me I have't filled the box in about what I want!?

I check GRO this morning only to find the site down.

I wrote here about it being down.

Went back to double check before I posted and it was back.

Tried to order a Digital Cert and it threw a wobbler at checkout.

Not just me then! Always good to know.

But who else other than a government department would do Maintenance, and then put it back up worse that it was to start with, just when the office closes for the weekend??

Government Dept, if contracted out then the Lowest Tenderer is hard not to use.

If in-house the staff will not be the best paid, outside industry pays better.

Our NHS IT Dept had quite a turnover of staff, they come, they learned, then they left to follow the money.

As a former IT professional, my take on this (and similar issues) is that changes aren't tested properly before a software release.

The "new" Probate Registry site is testimony to the ineptitude of whoever designed & "tested"  it.  It's been up around 2yrs now & is still not fixed

It's called beta-testing by the public.  ;D
