Tracing cousins who emigrated to SA
« on: Sunday 12 May 24 20:13 BST (UK) »
After putting a post on the South Africa section completely by accident it got me thinking...

In the 1970s my moms cousin Barbara Gutteridge (nee Coleman) emigrated from Wolverhampton to Durban, SA, with her husband David Gutteridge and 2 sons Robert and Ian Gutteridge. Both Barbara and David have passed away but we know nothing of the whereabouts of Ian or Robert. I think they would both be in their mid to late 50s now.

I would dearly love to find them but have no idea on where to start with searching in Durban. Does anyone have any tips on where I could start? Thank you in advance.

The Family Search website has various South Africa record collections.

www.familysearch.org  It's all free. Just create an account and start searching.

Hello Ashton,

Thank you for your help.  As suggested I did sign up on the site but it didn't reveal anything for any of the family but I will keep looking.

This might be more tricky for you as more recent emigration. I am not based in South Africa. You may be able to find the deaths or wills, or at least that they are indexed.

if anything is found, you can order some documents from the Archives through  Eggsa:

Thank you everyone. I have managed to find one of my cousins, who sadly passed away in 1999, according to the information on one of the sites. My other cousin isn't mentioned.

I am glad that you found someone even if the circumstances are sad.
