William Thurkle (b 1813; https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Thurkle-46) fathered several children whose birth registrations all name "Caroline Thurkle formerly Holloway" as mother. They were born in Southwark from 1839-1861, though I think Caroline may well have been born in Middlesex (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Holloway-6122). I cannot find any record that might refer to their marriage on FindMyPast, Ancestry, FamilySearch, FreeReg or GRO, even allowing variant spelling and different first names or surnames. It's possible from the 1841 census record (where her age is given as 20) that she might have needed a licence to marry, but I've not managed to find that either. Any tips or suggestions of what I might look for and where?

Hello
I can't find the marriage either but I do think I have her baptism and parents.

Caroline Holloway bapt 26 Nov 1815 Little Bath St  at St Andrew Holborn d  of James and Mary Ann cheesemonger.
Siblings William 21.1.1810 Dorrington St
George 4.8.1811 Dorrington St
Charles 24.9.1817 Little bath St cheesemonger Clerkenwell
Maria 6.2.1820 St George the Maytr Southwark cheesemonger GT Suffolk St
William Henry same church 26.8.1824 born 19.8.1821
Edward 24.7.1825 Gt Suffolk St cheesemonger

Father James Holloway buried St George the Maytr 1.5.1831 born 1777 Gt Suffolk St.

The 1861/1871 census does say birth about 1815 or 1816 so that would fit.And Edward Holloway is living with them on the 1841 census.

It still doesn't explain where she is 1831-1841 and why we can't find her marriage at St George the Maytr Southwark and adjoining parishes.

Thank you so much ciderdrinker! That's super helpful - more detail on some of those baptisms than I'd found (esp James's occupation), and I'd not found that death record for him. I'd erroneously - though tentatively - come to the view that he was in the 1841 census but now a bricklayer (which felt unlikely tbh).

I guess Caroline might well have had to go into service after her dad died, or to live with relatives. Like you say, the wedding is still a mystery too.

Don't forget that not all couples officially married but just lived together as man and wife.
