Capt BERNARD CAVE-BROWNE-CAVE 1917.
« on: Monday 13 May 24 14:33 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the burial place of Capt Bernard Cave-Brown-Cave , Wiltshire Regt who died on 4/5 April 1917.
Bernard was born at Osborn House, Great Malvern in 1868. He was the son of Ambrose Sneyd Cave-Browne and his wife Caroline Mary Ann Elizabeth (nee Saurin). It is understood that he died at Christchurch, Hampshire.
Bernard's death was attributable to his wartime service but sadly he was never commemorated as War Dead. If proof of burial can be found,  a case can be made to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to have his resting-place designated as a War Grave.
Can anyone out there offer any help?

I couldn't get the link to work.

Excellent find. Great to see he will get the commemoration he deserves.

Feels familiar for some reason.

A bit of a snag. Find a Grave records him at Stretton-en -le Field - (St Michael's Church). Unfortunately the church is no longer in use and the building is maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust. But neither they, nor the Leicestershire Records Office, are able to determine the whereabouts of the Burial Register for St Michael's. This info is vital in satisfying CWGC that his burial place should be designated as a War Grave.
So, next question. Does anyone have any idea where the Burial Register for St Michael's might be found??

Stretton en le Field is listed under Derbyshire in "The Phillimore Alas and Index of Parish Registers" as it was in the Archdeaconry of Derby. It says the Parish Registers 1638-1837 are deposited in the Leicestershire Record Office. No mention of later deposits. Its possible Derbyshire has the later Registers. Ray
