OP Darnity has been online today so not sure if they require any further info. or not on this family as they have not commented on the recent findings.

Going back to the beginning and their request Ashtone found the family on 1911 census as MITCHELL and the question as to whether James & Alice HURST/HIRST were married it would seem not as from the 1922 newspaper articles posted at reply 18 it mentions Mrs Harriet Alice Bowen and at reply 19 possible death posted for her husband Elijah Bowen in 1939 and Elijah is on 1911c and on the ER in Hemsworth with son Amos Edward Bowen in 1920

I think this could be their marriage ref. on West Midlands BMD

BOWEN   Francis   BOWEN   Ann
1846   Tipton, St Martin (Pepper Box)   Sandwell Register Office

For info.

The above marriage entry is transcribed on FREEreg
Both single, her father Philip Bowen, miner, his William Bowen, labourer

added - also baptism of Elijah Bowen  22 Jan 1854 at Great Croft Street United Free Methodist Church
