John Farrell

John Farrell, born in Glasgow in December 1890, left his wife Margaret Borland in 1923 to start a new life in America.  They had 4 sons and 1 daughter.
He is listed on the 1925 New York census as living in the Bronx.   On the 1930 federal census he is still living in the Bronx as a roomer, occupation given as bricklayer.
No trace of him can be found after 1930.
Does anyone know what happened to him?

His wife's name and address is listed on the passenger list so he wasn't pretending to be single when he left. 

I wonder if he came back to the UK.  Do you have his wife and children later on - did she ever remarry.

It looks like John sailed back to Glasgow (in Nov. 1923 according to the 2nd page of the later passenger list) and returned to New York in January 1924. 

The 1930 census says he filed his first papers for naturalization, but I didn't see markings on the passenger list indicating that he was naturalized. 

Do you have any further details about John, such as exact date of birth, parents' names, names of siblings, any relatives in the US, or middle name?  Such common names might need more detail to narrow down possibilities.

Further info on John Farrell :
He was born on 21st December 1890 in Govan Road, Glasgow.  He did not have a middle name but was known as 'Johnny'.   His parents were John Farrell & Martha Ryan.
He had 3 sisters, Mary ( m Daniel Boyle ), Elizabeth ( M John Dougherty ), and Martha ( m James Canavan ). 
His wife did not want to leave Scotland and that is why he went there alone.   He returned to Glasgow in late 1923 to try and persuade her to join him in New York but she refused, so he left Glasgow in Jan 1924 and as far as we know he never returned. 
As I said previously I haven't been able to trace his whereabouts in America beyond 1930.  The name 'John Farrell'  doesn't help of course,   there are dozens of them on the records !
I have always been curious to know what happened to him.

Looking at the ship manifest for John Farrell's arrival in New York on the Cameronia on January 30, 1924, he and fellow bricklayer John Bryceland are both traveling to 401 East 156th St. in the Bronx. John Bryceland indicates this is his home, while John Farrell has that it is his friend's address: "Mrs. Burl Pearson" I'm not sure if that is correct because the added handwriting is faint. Could someone else confirm...? John Bryceland and Mrs. Burl Pearson might be possible leads....? Also, perhaps there's a bricklayer's organization in New York to which he belonged...? Maybe....

UPDATE: Looks like John Bryceland traveled back and forth to the US over several decades. I'm checking to see if his destination was ever John Farrell's...

UPDATE: The New York Times, July 23, 1923 issue, has that "Burke Lawson, 29 years old, of 401 East 156th Street, the Bronx" was arrested on a "technical charge of homicide" for accidentally running over a child. So John Farrell's friend may be Mrs. Burke Lawson...
