School in Felixstowe
« on: Friday 17 May 24 10:21 BST (UK) »
I am doing some research for a friend. In the '1939 England & Wales Register' for the Felixstowe area the Old Felixstowe House School is listed along with a list of some of the boys attending the school. This is the only reference I can find to the school. It is presumably a private school. I have looked through the pages of the register immediately before and after the relevant page in the hope that I might find a helpful street name, but to no avail. If anybody wants to take a look for themselves you can enter 'John S. Doyle', DOB 18th August 1930 in the register (Ancestry). I would appreciate any help.

Regards

Doddie

If you go back to the 1939 Register then the next entry is for another school - Fleet House Girls School and then Bartlet Convalescent Home.

This map shows the location of the Convalescent Home, so gives an indication of where the schools are.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Searching British newspapers for Old Felixstowe House School brought up a handful of results with the earliest being in the Felixstowe Times, 4th January 1936 -- an advert which indicates that it was a preparatory school. (image courtesy of Find My Past)

Doesn't help with where exactly it was, however an obituary of Freddy Bannister says he went there.
