Sedgwick of Withersfield (c1700)
« on: Monday 20 May 24 23:07 BST (UK) »
Evening everyone,

I'm looking for BMD info on an EDWARD SEDGWICK.  He was married to Joanna, and they had children in 1700 & 1703.

Most importantly for me, though, he was a miller.

Any info would be fab!

Marriage was in June 1696 to Joanna Rule in Withersfield.

What sites do you normally check? Ancestry, FindMyPast, Family Search, FreeReg......?

I'm a bit old school.  I go to Ipswich record office and go through the fiches.  Pre 1813 it is very rare to get the persons occupation recorded.

Where would you recommend?

FreeReg is free to search. Very helpful for pre-1837 parish records. https://www.freereg.org.uk/

Family Search is free. Simply register and search for records.  https://www.familysearch.org

Ancestry and FindMyPast are pay sites.

The marriage to Joanna Rules is very helpful!

A miller Thomas Rules died in Withersfield in 1688, and he was a miller, so I'm assuming that Joanna was his daughter and Edward, her husband, took over the mill.

Possible baptism for Joanna:

02 Jul 1676 in Withersfield - Jeanna Rule. Parents: Thomas & Jeanna Rule

By the way, these records are on Family Search. You can see them for free if you register.
