There's only two sons with Mary Ann on the 1921 census. Ages 5 and 8. The other son (your father?) isn't listed with the family. Could he be staying with a relative?

I'm a bit confused when you say that Mary Ann had no children before she married William Young. Yet you say she had three sons before 1918.  ???

Is this not a son of William and Mary Ann?

Marriages 4th Qrt 1916
William Young - Mother's maiden name Cooper
Leigh    8c   467

You mentioned that your father was born in 1910? What were his details? Do you have him on the 1911 census?

Please can I say this.
Apparently I confused someone. I'm really sorry about that.
I would like to say. My Gran Mary Ann Young who was born Mary Ann Cooper.
She had 5 children during her life as far as I can understand.
3 boys and 2 girls. All before and after she married William Young. My dad 1910 (father's name unknown)
My uncle John 1913 father's name Robert Turner. My uncle Bill 1915 also father's name not known. Which I have a thought on.
As far as we know Mary Ann Cooper married William Young 1916
She had her 2nd son with her (my uncle John)
So I'm thinking what if my uncle Bill  is the son of William young.
In those days mother's would call her children after the babies father or mother.
I'm not sure on this part. But it's possible that Mary could have been expecting William Youngs baby.
I could be completely wrong. It's just a thought that came into my head.
From what I have seen on the census
My Gran Mary Ann is listed as the head and a widow. Her 2 sons William(Bill) and John are listed as young..
To be honest it's just a coincidence that my Gran had 2 sons who's father's names are not known.
If I'm wright about my uncle William (Bill) being the son of William young that would be great. I only wish I could share this with my late half sister Maggie.
I could never find out who my dad's father was. I'm still trying to find out.
As for my Grans 2 daughters.
They was born after 1930s. Alice and Agnes seddon.
My Gran Mary married Richard seddon.
I'm not sure when or where.
I hope this explains the confusion.
To be honest I honestly get confused myself.
Thank you all again for your help

The 1911 census shows Dorothy's father as the youngest son of her parents, and Mary Ann as the eldest child.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I'm not sure how to reply to the person who said

I believe the poster has confused Mary Ann Young the mother of William with Mary Ann Young nee Cooper his wife.

Please can I say.
I'm not confused.
Mary Ann Cooper. My Gran.
Married William Young.
She became. Mary Ann Young.
She also had a son called William. He was born in 1915.
My Gran Mary Ann Cooper married William Young in 1916. But he passed away a year later.
My Gran Mary Ann also had a brother called William. Who was killed in action 1916.

I hope this makes sense.
It is confusing. Especially having family members who seem to have the same name.
Thank you again everyone
Kind regards
Dorothy
