Looking for a marriage and identity
« on: Wednesday 22 May 24 14:27 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm looking for a marriage between a William Johnson, baptised in South Shields on the 4th December 1845, father William and mother, Isabella Gibson.

He may have married his wife, Elizabeth, around 1870.
Elizabeth had been born in Holywell, Northumberland around 1852/1853

The 1871 census finds the pair living in Pittingdon, Durham, with a son, William, who had been born in Backworth, Northumberland during the December quarter of 1870 (mother's maiden name 'Turner')
The only marriage I can find is one that took place in Sunderland on the 29th March 1871 (William Johnson and Elizabeth Turner, but it looks as though her former name was Hodgson).

Another son, Benjamin was born in Washington, Durham during the March quarter of 1873, Matthew, was born during the June quarter of 1875, and Sarah was born in Percy Main, Northumberland during the June quarter of 1878 (all mother's maiden names given as 'Turner')
The 1881 census - living in Whitley, Tynemouth
Thomas was born during the June quarter of 1881, Alexander, was born during the December quarter of 1884, and Benjamin, was born during the June quarter of 1889 (all mother's maiden name given as 'Turner')
The 1891 census - living in Cowpen, Tynemouth
The 1901 census - living in Bebside Furnace, Horton, Tynemouth
Elizabeth dies prior to 1911

From the birth registrations of all their children, it would seem as though Elizabeth's maiden name was Turner...can anybody confirm or trace her?
Thanks
Sue

A possible from FreeBMD

September quarter 1869 - Newcastle T. Registration District

William Johnson and Elizabeth Turner appear on the same page = 157

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Family Search shows that William Johnson married Elizabeth Turner on the 11th September 1869 (link below)

Hi

I'm pretty sure that this is her - she named a son, Alexander (and Benjamin), and is missing from the family in 1871, as she had married William Johnson in 1869.

Thanks to all for looking - most appreciated!

Sue
