Early marriage look up? Civil war period
« on: Wednesday 12 June 24 14:10 BST (UK) »
Good afternoon. I have posted information requests before but as it’s been a few years I thought I’d give it another go?

Clement SALISBURY c1625 and Anne c1625  baptise two children at Fornham St Martin Clement in 1652 and Robert in 1655

So based on the dates of baptism I’m guessing that a marriage took place c1650 smack in the civil war so I appreciate that there may not even be a record? I’m desperate to discover Anne’s maiden name? The baptisms of her sons doesn’t give Anne’s maiden name either? Most of this is pure conjecture?

Anyway I’m not expecting miracles but one never knows what may surface?
Any help, advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Rob

Have you looked for wills for Clement and Anne? They might mention her family
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

According to Familysearch, the two children, Clement and Robert, were baptized at Barrow, Suffolk.  Have you checked the Barrow marriage register?  Parishes adjacent to Barrow?  Have you checked the Bishop's Transcripts as well as the parish registers?

Another thought, if you are desperate.  The Suffolk Protestation returns (1641/2) could, potentially, give you a view of the distribution of Salisburys in the county at that time.  However, they are only intended to cover males over 18, so Clement, if he was baptized literally in 1625, could be excluded.  This also depends on there being a decent number of extant returns for Suffolk, which I haven't checked.

If that fails, you could consider searching the collections for distressed  Protestants in Ireland in 1642; in theory, there was a collection in every English parish.

A big thank you to both Lizzie and Watson for the advice.

I was aware that Clement & Robert were baptised in Barrow? I can only put it down to a senior moment 😊

I’ve checked within a 10 mile radius of Barrow but alas nothing ? There are several clusters of Salisbury’s , Barrow, Fornham st Martin and Great Barton although I believe the Great Barton families are a different line to my own?
Unfortunately wills are scant and I can only find one that doesn’t reveal any further information. Anyway I’ll keep my eyes open. Thanks again for your invaluable help.

Best wishes
Rob
