Coroners Inquest report 1970

Sorry to be asking what is perhaps considered to be a morbid question but as a follow on from last weekends free access to FindMyPast family tree records I have just received a copy death certificate. It mentions in the name and surname of informant section, Certification received from G H C Harding Coroner for the Borough of Kings Lynn. Inquest held 17th November 1970.

A cursory look to see what is available has got me completely baffled as to what is and what is not available for me to research. I have put the persons name in the National Archives but this returns zero results. There is also the NRO and Kings Lynn Borough Archives but these two baffled me and appear to just list reference numbers.

Does anyone have any experience of carrying out similar research and could kindly point me in the right direction please?

Now I have the death certificate it is a case of I would like to learn more about the circumstances and the findings given on the certificate.

I had already checked the newspaper articles that were available using BNA website so I spent just over two hours this morning searching the local newspaper at the local library without success

That is a shame as very often it is the best report you can find.  Does it give a cause of death.

The duplicate death certificate does give a cause of death, however because the certificate mentions an inquest dated 17th November 1970 I was hoping to find out more details.

There is a mention of an accident for a 24 yr old, he was from Crewe but lodging near Kings Lynn.

On BNA and FindMyPast, newspaper coverage for Norfolk in 1970 is limited to the Diss Express. So, if the inquest was reported in another Norfolk newspaper you may need to look elsewhere for it.

I'm not familiar with Norfolk, but this may be a starting point for newspaper archives. I'm sure there are various Norfolk newspapers on microfilm.

The OP gives his location as Kings Lynn, so a main library covering the area most likely has the papers on microfilm.

Thank you for your reply Cathy. He died on the 09.11.1970, the inquest was on the 17th November 1970. The person I am researching was 30 years older than the one you mention so I am able to rule your option out.

Thanks very much Ashtone for your reply and the links, much appreciated. Diss is around 40 miles from Kings Lynn. The Lynn News and Advertiser is the main newspaper for West Norfolk and that is the newspaper I checked in the library earlier today. The only other newspaper worthy of note that serves Kings Lynn is the EDP ( Eastern Daily Press ) so that could be my next option.
