Are banns still in existence in either of the candidate parishes (if the marriage was after banns), or licence/allegation?

WIKI
Roger Townshend, 1708 - 1760
"He served as Governor of the North Yarmouth garrison from 1745-1760."

THE HISTORY AND ANTIQUITIES OF THE ANCIENT BURGH OF YARMOUTH - pub 1742
" Whereas diverse of the inhabitants of the town of Great Yarmouth (besides the garrison by me there placed ...." (early 1644)

THE HISTORY OF PARLIAMENT
Roger Townshend 1708-1760
" ...; gov. Yarmouth Castle 1745-d(eath)

HISTORY OF PARLIAMENT
Robert Brudenell 1726-68
"On 6 Aug 1760 he wrote to Newcastle that Col Rog Townshend, governor of North Yarmouth Castle, was dying, and asked to succeed him because, he wrote, " ... though the income is but £182 10s a year, it will be of great assistance to us." But the Townshend family had claims to Yarmouth, so Newcastle obtained for Brudenell the Governorship of Cowes Castle instead. ...". Being granted Cowes a coincidence?

Post #8 has both Yarmouth Castle and N Yarmouth showing a value of "10s" - but there is no description of what that figure applies to. The maximum is £900 (Berwick and Holy Island), the minimum 5s (Portland Castle).
I did note "Wight (Isle of) E. of Portsmouth, Gov. £1 7s 4d 3f"

Yet to join up the dots.

GENUKI says: ‘YARMOUTH , a parish, seaport, and market town in the liberty of West Medina, Isle of Wight, county Hants, 10 miles W. of … Cowes, and 6 by steamer across the Solent to Lymington. This place, anciently called Eremuth, and now occasionally South Yarmouth, to distinguish it from Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, derives its name from its situation at the mouth of the river Yar, which falls into the Solent’ Before Yarmouth grew to become Great, I assume North and South made the distinction.

This is really interesting - a fascinating load of information.

I also found in the later Coast Guard Establishment books that Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight had (S) put after it and the Yarmouth (in Norfolk) station, was 'North Battery, Yarmouth.'

Thanks to All for your replies.

Someone has just suggested to me that N Yarmouth could stand for "Norfolk Yarmouth"  to differentiate it from "IOW Yarmouth" and the N does not stand for North but for Norfolk.

Waying up the odds I think N Yarmouth stands for Norfolk Yarmouth AKA Great Yarmouth.
