All excellent stuff thankyou

I did find the death of Ambrose Johnston in Iowa in 1930 - the informant gives the following details about his parents -

Father - John Johnston of Ederney, Ireland
Mother - Elizabeth B Blayney born Dromore (Tyrone).

Is it possible that they resided in Ederney before moving to Carnalea in 1880?

Have just found some baptisms that may or may not be relevant -

Lack or Cloaghty Church of Ireland
1850 Francis of John & Elizabeth Johnston of Knockroe (farmer)
1852 Ambrose of John & Eliza Johnston of Knockroe (farmer)
1854 Thomas of John & Elizabeth Johnston of Knockroe (farmer)
1857 - Eliza Jane of John & Eliza Johnston of Knockroe (farmer)

Although Knockroe is in the civil parish of Drumkeeran in Fermanagh it is not too far from Dromore in Co Tyrone.

I would rule them out since there is no David listed amongst them.  The Anna in the 1901 census who moves to Iowa in 1909 also has a son named David.

Send me a PM and I will send you the entire newspaper article about the marriage.  The article indicate she arrived just two weeks prior to the marriage aboard the Lusitania out of Liverpool.  I found her as A. Jane Johnston, widow, aged 50, last of Omagh, Ireland; names her brother Charles Speer of Creevan, Omagh as her next of kin at home; bound for her brother-in-law, Ambrose Johnston  of Zearing, Story County, Iowa.

Anne's maiden name is Steen.  Marriage in 1909 naming her parents as Andrew Steen and Elizabeth Mitchell.  First marriage in 1867 names her first husband as Robert Johnston, a minor, son of William (not John) so perhaps a cousin:

Robert Johnston and Anna (Jane) Steen (of Edenaveagh, Drumkeeran, Fermanagh) had issue:
1870 - Andrew
1871 - Eliza Ann
1871 - Wm Robert
1875 - Charles

No sign of a David (1901 census says born Tyrone not Fermanagh) - so I am not sure Annie Johnston 1901 Carnalea is the same person who emigrated to USA to marry William JH Irvine.
