I am trying to trace the marriage record of WILLIAM GRIEVES to RACHEL LITTLE.  I believes they were married in Dumfriesshire

Grateful for any helpwith this and for any earlier information about either of them

Best wishes

Hi,
Can you give us any hints as to why you think they were married there and how you got the names? It helps when searching.

Hello

In 1841 Scottish census they at Wattaman, Half Morton Dumfriesshire.
In 1851 census they were at Longtown

Their Children-

Archibald b1839 in Scotland died before 1851
Ellen b1841  in Scotland
John b1843 in Scotland
Archibald b 27 June 1844
Ann b1847 Scotland
William, Jane, James, Isabella all born in Longtown

(Archibald and William appear to be family names that are handed down)

I have no Knowledge of the baptisms of either William or Rachel or of their marriage

Helen was baptised in Kirkpatrick Fleming on 7 June 1840.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thanks, that helps a lot.

Especially as Forfarian points out Helen appears to have been born in Kirkpatrick Fleming. She is recorded as Lawful daughter, so they were married, but there is a big gap in the Kirkpatrick Fleming Marriage records.

There are however other Littles having children in the parish at the time so it seems possible Rachel was born there.

There is also a William Grieve born 1811 in Middlebie, the next parish over to John Grieve and Helen Gillies. So he would be a possibility. Given the name Helen.

Do you have any later census information for them?

Hello

1861 census has the family minus John and Archibald living at Sandyside? Cottage next to the Turnpike Toll Gate in the Township of **neside  Could be Lyneside

Also have 1871/1881/1891/1901census if useful

William died 16 March 1902
Rachel died 19 December 1895

Hope that helps
