Looking for birth record from 1940s
« on: Monday 08 July 24 18:01 BST (UK) »
Hi all, I'm looking for a birth record from Northern Ireland for a relative from the 1940s but there's absolutely no trace of it on Ancestry, or any of the other genealogy sites. I also can't find any marriage records for their parents (could be NI, could be UK).

I noticed that you can't look up births less than 100 years ago, or marriages less than 75 years ago on GRONI. Is it the same rule for sites like Ancestry about displaying the info? Or should I be able to find it. I can see records of English relatives of the same age so it seems odd.

Thanks for any light you can shed.

You can't find anything on Ancestry as they don't have anything.

Thanks for your reply.

Just no NI records at all then? Can they only be found through GRONI?

As I understand it, only through GRONI after 1921

You can ring them up and arrange to have a search done. There's a fee involved.
