George Whitehead - a mystery
« on: Thursday 18 July 24 16:06 BST (UK) »
Hi

Looking to find George Whitehead prior to his marriage.

He married Charlotte Bridgens in Aston, Warwickshire on the 30th May 1886. I have only a brief transcription, which gives the date, their ages, George was 24 years, and Charlotte was 21 years, and their father's names, which were George Whitehead and Samuel Bridgens.

Charlotte is easy to find with her parents prior to her marriage, although her birth registration cannot be traced,  ??? but George is proving elusive!

The couple cannot be traced (by me anyway!) on the 1891 census, I'm not sure whether the piece is missing, but can be found in 1901, lodging with Aaron Ballard in Aston - George's year of birth is estimated as 1862 and place of birth is Birmingham.
By 1911, the family were living in 3 Montague Street, Aston - George's estimated year of birth is given as 1862, but his place of birth given, quite precisely, as London, Leicester Square.
I have only limited access to the 1921 census, but George confirms his birth year as 1862 and birth place as Birmingham.
The 1939 register finds them living in 2/35 Bishop Street, Birmingham - George's birth date is given as 3rd October 1860 (should it be 1861?), whilst Charlotte's is given as 9th September 1864.
George died the following year (September quarter of 1940), age given as 79 years.

Can anyone trace him before 1891? Or with his parents?  Total mystery!!

Best Wishes
Sue

1921 census (taken in June) gives his age as 59 years, 4 months. So a possible DOB of Feb 1862.

Charlotte's age is 55 years, 3 months. Possible DOB of March 1866.

Hi
Its not listed, literally all I have is what I have given you.

Following his marriage the 1901 census lists it as (I think), a machinist, and 1911 he was a 'dipper' in the brass foundry.

If this is Charlotte in the news snippet below then you have her street address in Feb 1888.
