Brick Wall 2.0 Mary Ann Jones
« on: Tuesday 23 July 24 12:11 BST (UK) »
Hello Everyone, i recently made my first forum on here and thanks too two talented genealogists i was able to break through a wall, and that inspired me to perhaps give it another go?

I’m looking for the Parents of Mary Ann Jones, born in 1837 in Llangattock Lingoed, Mon,
And died on 12 March 1896 in Pontypool due to apoplexy,

She married John Herbert Jenkins on the 24 July 1870 in llanfihangel Crucorney

Witnesses ~ Onesiphorius Jenkins (Pos Nephew of John) and Eliza Jones
Father named John Jones a labourer

I did notice their was a 1871 census stating that a John & Mary Jenkins with the correct birth locations Situated at the Bridge Inn, and a brother named Thomas Jones at the address also

Hope this helps! As this is all i’ve currently found!

This is a very challenging one due to the incredibly common names (John Jones!), and I would hate to lead you down the wrong path, but there is a possible candidate for Mary Ann.

There is this Mary Ann, who was born c.1837 in Llangattock Lingoed, but was living with her father John and mother Catherine in Llanvihangel Crucorney in 1851:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGTV-VG6

The family is still there in 1861, minus Mary Ann, but with son Tom, born c.1859:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7RB-YPK

By 1871, John has passed away:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V556-S8Q

No son Tom there either.

It appears that John Jones married Catherine Price on 27th April 1837 in Llangattock Lingoed. They did have a daughter called Eliza in 1855, but she does not appear on the census with them so I cannot be sure whether she survived.

This could all be a coincidence, but I thought it was worth suggesting anyway to see if anyone else can find something more concrete.

Queenie  :)

Hello,

The Catherine does seem like a possible link, especially with both mentioning’s of Eliza & Thomas, and thomas with the correct birth date,

With John Dying and Catherine remarrying this could also make sense on why Thomas Jones may have appeared on the 1871 census with a married Mary Ann in Pontnewydd, whilst Catherine remarried and went elsewhere,

I did find a possible baptism

Mary Ann Jones
10 May 1835
Llangattock Lingoed
Parents Elizabeth & John
Father Labourer

Their was another with Mother’s name Eleanor however i seem to have lost that record,

These are potential candidates aswell, as we know census ages seem to be unpredictable

Only concrete information we do have is the Eliza Jones and Thomas Jones, and Llangattock Lingoed.

Finding the birth record with Mother’s maiden name for Eliza, Thomas and Mary Ann is a potential vocal point to confirming the information we need, it’s just tracking the correct people

1861 Census

Llangattock Lingoed ~ Tower Cellar

Eleanor Jones ~ Head ~ Widow ~ 35 ~ Farmer Born Llangottock, lingoed

Children ~
thomas Jones b. 1858 Llangattock Lingoed and Eliza Jones ~ 1855 ~ 6 years

Only thing with this that doesn’t add up is Thomas is present on the 1871 Census with Kate & John Jenkins in Pontnewydd in the Bridge inn,

1861 Census

Llangattock Lingoed ~ Tower Cellar

Eleanor Jones ~ Head ~ Widow ~ 35 ~ Farmer Born Llangottock, lingoed

Only thing with this that doesn’t add up is Thomas is present on the 1871 Census with Kate & John Jenkins in Pontnewydd in the Bridge inn,

I believe Eleanor's late husband was James Jones, farmer, not John Jones, labourer.
