Shaffer and Webb of Syracuse
« on: Monday 29 July 24 01:25 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I need help in finding the right ancestors of Charles F Shaffer and his wife Bridget Josephine Webb.
Charles Shaffer was born 25 March 1879 Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, USA and died there 10 October 1951. Bridget was born 1 August 1883 New York and died 12 June 1963 Syracuse, Onondaga, New York, USA. The Information are from an online tree and i want to verify the information and need help to find their parents and grandparents. I know that Online trees are not always accurate, thats the reason why i'm reaching out for help.

The tree says that the parents of Charles were Jacob Shaffer from Germany and his wife Elizabeth born in Germany June 1849 and died in Syracuse 5 April 1920. Bridgets parents were Charles Webb born 1856 Brentford;England and Bridget Commerford. I'm interested in the Shaffer from Germany and Webb line from England to link them to my own tree and find a connection. I don't need Information on the Commerford family.

Can someone help me? I'm not familiar with research and Genealogy in the U.S

Jane

Death certificates give the names of the parents if known in the USA.

The marriage certificate may give the father's names.

Charles L Shaffer married 26 May 1902 in Syracuse to Bridget J Webb

Certificate number 9097.
-----------------------

His father must have died as his mother remarried 29 November 1897 to Adelbert Boots

Certificate number 23107.

--------------------
1900 census of Syracuse shows Charles Shaffer 21 and Jacob Shaffer 11 as stepsons of Adelbert Boots.

1905 census of  Syracuse New York there is a Jacob BOWMAN age 54 living with them as brother in law born Germany came to Us in 1851
Elizabeth Boots also says she came in 1851 so her maiden name is possibly Bowman.

Look for a passenger list circa 1851 for Elizabeth and Jacob Bowman.
