Well that sounds like the same person to me; her age fits in the range identified on the admissions in Islington.  Might have to look at census information for 1901 and 1911 perhaps to get a better idea.

I also believe there are two Samuel Staughton's.

One is the son of Stephen & Elizabeth born 1828 St Mary Whitechapel and they lived in Church Place & Cross Street East Islington for some time (even though Stephen himself is from Eynesbury) thus giving the connection Islington and her removal there.

The other was born 1832 in Eynesbury and I think is the one that married Sarah Annie Lee in 1865 as he is a 19yo shoemaker in 1851 and a 39yo shoemaker in 1871.

I think it is the first one who is Fanny's husband and I need to find him going forward too.

I finally found that 1911 entry.

The notation "Lunatic 25" is made by the enumerator I think it means she has been a lunatic since the age of 25, which would match the timing of the newspaper articles in 1856 and a birth year of 1830/1.

I am now wondering if this is a different and older Fanny Farey than the one I seek born 1837.

As a descendant of Farey/Faireys from Huntingdonshire it's interesting for me to see the profession "shoemaker" for George, as shoemaker (or cordwainer) was a traditional profession for my male Fairey members for several generations.  Although these Farey/Faireys lived very close to my ancestors, who came from Easton and Ellington,  I cannot see any of those mentioned in my tree.

UK, Lunacy Patients Admission Registers on ancestry has
Fanny Staughton admitted to Bedford asylum, 7 May 1856
Discharged 10 March 1857, "Recovered" ???

Fanny Staughton admitted 10 March 1857 to Colney Hatch (transcribed Stangton on ancestry)
Discharged 22 June 1877, Relieved

Fanny Staughton admitted 22 June 1877 to Banstead (Stauglton on ancestry)
Discharged - in pencil it may say 4 Sep, then 81, or is the 1 actually a mark in the Relieved column?

Perhaps then after Banstead she was moved to Leavesden, which is not in these records

I am in the same position with the 15 entries in 1857 for Workhouse admissions in Islington.

I don't think there are workhouse entries. Hasn't Fanny just gone from one asylum to another?

What you need on ancestry is to browse

Or if searching at the library, try changing the url to ancestry library (i.e. www.ancestrylibraryedition.co.uk)

Lots of images with removal documents to enjoy!
Starts with a rough exam/chat with her husband
Says he married Fanny Fairey about 5 years ago at the Old Meeting House St Neots
