Fearicks of Tuam
« on: Saturday 31 August 24 08:40 BST (UK) »
Could anyone help me with trying to find out about the Fearick family from Tuam, please?

Using British records we have got as far back as a Patrick (born c. 1796, we think, according only to an old find on FamilySearch.) and Jane Fearick, whose son John (born 1834) married a Mary Larner (I don't know where) and they moved to Lancashire. A daughter of John and Mary married a John Larner, and they moved back to Ireland. I have found Mary Ellen and John in Ballynapark, in 1901. In 1855 a Patrick and Jane Fearick were living in Togher Beg, all of five miles from where their potential granddaughter chose to live 40 years later.

This looks like too big a coincidence to be a coincidence, especially as my mother remembered going to a farm near Tuam as a girl in the 1930s. It looks to me like some strong family ties there. But ancestry.com doesn't get me any closer than just wishfully thinking that the 1855 Patrick and Jane were my great great grandparents.

Any suggestions as to how to proceed would be welcome.

A daughter of John and Mary married a John Larner, and they moved back to Ireland. I have found Mary Ellen and John in Ballynapark, in 1901.

Here's the link to the family in 1901 census-
House 6 in Pollsillagh (Ballynapark, Galway)

Living in the townland of Pollsillagh south of Tuam.

Before the start of civil registration (births, Catholic marriages & deaths-1864), you are dependent on church records for baptisms and marriages. Many records are available online (both free and pay sites) but not all records survive and of those that do still exist, not all are online.

Hi

That surname is often spelled Ferrick, especially around Tuam.

Hi Philip

I know you’re looking for pre 1834 Tuam Fearicks, but have you seen the James Ferrick (sic) born Tuam on 12 Nov 1839:-
