I received a reply from SLV State Library of Victoria.

I have checked the entire work and there is no reference to any Thompson.
 
The only reference to Charles Brown is on pages 2-3:

GLENAMPLE.

Well, I don't know what is written on pages 2-3, but as I said in reply#8, there are a couple of clear sightings of Charles BROWN for 15 years at Glen Ample.

Like the librarian, I have not seen reference to James THOMPSON.
Possibly his role in the development of the run was overstated by the author of the obituary.
