Tasmanian Immigrant Arrivals Look Up Please
« on: Tuesday 13 September 05 07:11 BST (UK) »
Does some kind person have access to Tasmanian
Immigration Records?

Albert Hall was born in Sheffield in 1864 and he
seems to have left England between 1868 &
1871 and I believe he went to Tasmania with his
father James and possibly siblings Kate, William,
Lelia & Anne.

Is there any chance of finding a record of his
arrival in the colonies?

Can anyone help me with this one please?

I found the following marriage in Tasmania:

Hall, Albert (adult)
Brindley, Alice May (aged 19)
married 7 Apr 1890
Tasmania Reg Year 1890 Ref no. 344

That is the only marriage for a Albert Hall in Tasmania that I could find.   There are two many William Hall marriages to choose from.  I couldn't find a marriage for Lelia (or any variation) Hall.

There are two marriages for Kate Hall

Kate Hall aged 27
William Kennedy aged 47
married 7 Aug 1880
Tasmania Reg Year 1880 Reg No 599

Kate Hall aged 18
John Jeffery Olley aged 22
8 Oct 1883
Tasmania Reg Year 1883 Reg No 545

No Tasmanian marriages for Ann Hall.

Good morning,

Perhaps you should also pursue your searches through Victoria as well -

Good luck in your research.

Thanks so much for your interest.
The marriage in Tasmania of Albert to Alice is
indeed that of my folks and it is marvellous to
now have a date for their wedding.
The marriage of Kate Hall to William Kennedy
certainly looks as if it is Albert's sister as the age
fits perfectly!

I did look at the Victorian records on line without
much success but I will certainly take your advice
and look at the two websites your suggest.

Albert was not in England for the 1871 census but he
I believe he was still in England in 1868 when his
mother died as he was only 4 years old at the time.

The shipping records will most likely hold the key to
which members of the family immigrated and on which
ship they arrrived.   They certainly did not go to
NSW first so it is either Victoria or Tasmanian.
Where to look  next do you think?

Hi Shadrach

The following is the Archives office of Tasmania.  They have immigration records, they do searches, the pricing is on the website.

if you go to the site Genni suggested, they have a data base linking folks from certain records

http://resources.archives.tas.gov.au/Pioneers/Taslink2.asp
Your Albert (if he did marry Alice ) comes up as having four children

172707  HALL  HENRY JAMES WILLIAM  1898
172708  HALL  ALICE GERTRUDE  1890
172709  HALL  ALBERT GEORGE  1892
172710  HALL  REBECCA EMMELIN KATE  1896

You may find lots of other information on the archives site. The Tas Library I have also found useful
http://www.statelibrary.tas.gov.au/

There is also Tasmanian Cemetery information online at
http://www.srct.com.au/search.html

Thanks Genni and Trish.
These sites will be extremely useful, not
only to me but I am sure they will be
appreciated by many others too.

Isn't Rootschat marvellous!
