GEORGE MARTIN and ELIZABETH ROBINSON
« on: Sunday 08 September 24 21:32 BST (UK) »
Looking for any information about GEORGE MARTIN born in about 1823,  Married at Torpenhow Parish Church on 26 May 1849 to ELIZABETTH (BETSY) ROBINSON.

Over the period from about 1858 to 1869 George and Elizabeth lived at a variety of places in Cumberland , Torpenhow, Sunderland Cottages, Isell, Bassenthwaite

His father was William Martin

Grateful for any information about his date and place of birth and date and place of Death and any information about his father William

I believe George died in about 1870

After George died ELIZABETH lived in Brigham Village  (1871,18981, 1891 census)  Cannot find in 1861 census. Before moving to the Bank, Eaglsfield in 1901 census.

I believe Elizabeth died before the 1911 census.

Her father was John Robinson

I would be grateful for any information about her birth and death and about her parents.

Thank you

Octo

What was his father William's occupation?

What was John Robinson's occupation?

What did George do?

Cannot find in 1861 census.

In 1861 the family is in Bothel, but no sign of husband / father George.

Elizabeth is recorded as married.

I don't see George in the 1851 census either.

By 1871 census, ELizabeth is a widow. Youngest child 2 yrs old.

In 1851, I think George Martin is working as a farm servant in Bothel (so not with his family)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGKR-Q7V

He is recorded as born Embleton, Cumberland

The only census that I can find for George is 1851. There his birth is Allerdale.
If you have other census records – please post them.

Having a look in the Allerdale area
In 1841 and 1851 there is a William Martin and wife Elizabeth who are the right age to be George’s parents.
You could explore this family further.

1841 Brigham, Allerdale above Derwent
William Martin 56  ag lab.
Elisabeth Martin 50
Elisabeth Martin 11

1851 Embleton (Low Mill)
William Martin, Head, 66, Ag lab, born Cumberland
Elizabeth Martin, wife, 60, born Caldbeck
Joseph Martin, son, 36, Ag lab, born Embleton

There is a baptism for a George Martin (see reply1) that would fit with those parents
28 July 1822 Setmurthy
Parents William and Elizabeth
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
