Chicago, West Pullman birth record
« on: Saturday 14 September 24 16:13 BST (UK) »
Could someone please lookup for a birth record?

Keresztes Rozalia (Rose) birth date 1920 February 11 US, Chicago, West Pullman
The parents should be Keresztes Jozsef (Joseph) born in 1876 and Fulop Zsuzsanna (Susanne) born in 76 too, Hungarian (Transylvania, now Romania) emmigrants.

I dont know if exsits somekind of immirgation records about them, but i would be grateful if someone could lookup that too. They had to arrive in the US around 1904-1920.

Thank you, Barni

Hi
Welcome to Rootschat.
There looks to be  possible records for Joseph (mentioning his wife Zusie) on Familysearch

1920 Census Ward 9, Chicago, ED 600, Sheet 3B, dwelling 38, family 59
[indexed as Kerester]

renting at 11812 Peoria Street
Joseph Kerestes, 43, arrived 1902, naturalization status: alien, laborer, foundry
Susie, wife, 41, arrived 1902, naturalization status: alien,
Joseph, son, 5, born in Illinois
6 boarders, all born in Hungary

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MJS1-CJN

so he says they arrived in 1902, and they were definitely in Illinois by 1915.

Good find, oldohiohome.  The 1920 census has the same address as the WWI draft card.

Thank you.

Try this page at stevemorse.org for their arrival. Ellis Island records 1892 - 1924.
https://stevemorse.org/ellis2/ellisgold.html

the search parameters are very flexible. You might do better than I did, since you have a sense of where they were from. I didn't find them but I was discarding anyone whose destination wasn't Chicago. Your family might have gone somewhere else first, or said they did if they had relatives elsewhere but really were headed to Chicago. The manifests list the home towns and the nearest relative in the home country. You might recognize them where I wouldn't.

And they might have come through another port or even through Canada then into the U.S.

I didn't find Rose's birth.

Arrived Baltimore May 31, 1912, on the SS Neckar from Bremen (left May 16)
line 22 and 23 on both pages of the list

Jozsef Keresztes, 36, male, married, can read and write, Hungarian nationality, Magyar nationality, 5 feet 1 inch, brown hair, grey eyes
Zuzanna Keresztes, 33, female, cannot read or write, Hungarian nationality, Magyar nationality, 4 feet 10 inches, brown hair, blue eyes

Their last permanent residence and his father's name and address are on the first page of the form. The information /might/ be saying that Zuzanna's father lives in the same town, I'm not sure.
destination: Chicago
stamped admitted
he paid for the trip, they are carrying $48
They had been in the US before, from 1906 to 1908 in North Pullman, Illinois,
destination in US Jozsef's brother in law, Elek Fulop at 825 118th St, Chicago
their birthplace is in the last column of the 2nd page of information. it looks like the same place as where Jozsef's father lives.

-------------------
1913 Chicago Directory
Jos Kerestes or Kereztes, laborer, home at 11814 South Peoria

-------
11814 South Peoria is in the West Pullman neighborhood of Chicago (Google Maps)
her brother lived within walking distance of 11814 South Peoria (Google maps)

-------------
I haven't found their first arrival.
When were they "last seen" in Hungary/Romania? A marriage or a census, etc.?

This appears to be Elek's declaration of intention to naturalize from 1908 (although he's listed as Alek and the birth year was 1877) - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS9M-93CZ-T?i=227&cat=504199  He was living at 1000 Peoria St.

His passenger list is here - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JF7P-7M9
