Where were courts in Shrewsbury in 1840.
« on: Tuesday 17 September 24 10:59 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm currently conducting research for a novel and I'm in need of your expertise. I'm trying to locate the court of law that would have been held in Shrewsbury in 1840.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find an answer on Google or the many books I have about Shrewsbury.
Would it have been a county court or a magistrates court? or assizes?

I think there was a court held in the old market hall in the square once but doesn't fit with my date. The crime is child neglect /possible murder.
Thank you so much for any insight.

Side by side map view of Shire Hall to show where is was and what’s there now (Starbuck’s, naturally).

Thank you so much, Alan. You're a star, too. :) These coffee places get everywhere!
Like my first novel set in Shrewsbury, too, I'm keen to get my historical facts correct.
