Highfields Sedgley and Lanes Field 1800- 1850's
« on: Tuesday 24 September 24 13:03 BST (UK) »
hello
I'm getting rather confused looking at maps trying to work out where Highfields Sedgley and Lanes Field were exactly. I have my ancestors David and Hannh Williams living in Highfields throughout the first two decades of the 19th century and then recorded in the 1841 census at Lane's Field. I'm rather confused that although they had eight children baptised at St Leonard's Bilston between 1800-1822 their abode was given as Highfields, Sedgley. Was there not a Sedgley parish church?
could anyone please tell me where i could source a map with the clear parish boundaries.
could someone please tell me if St Leonard's had burials after 1837 as all the records i can find are up to that year.

This 1885 map shows Lanesfield and to the west the Highfield area - not much between them.

Thank you Alan the map is really helpful. My West Midlands geographical knowledge is not good. I think it helps to explain why someone living in Highfields Sedgley might have their children baptised in Bilston St Leonard's as they were so close to the parish border.
