John Arthur Hamilton JUNG
« on: Wednesday 16 October 24 10:24 BST (UK) »
John Arthur Hamilton JUNG died on 8 July 1918 after serving with the Machine Gun Corps.  Aged 20, he was the son of Frederick (deceased) and Ann Alice Jung. He lived and died at 66 Malvern Street, Newcastle-on-Tyne.
His death was attributable to his war service but, like many others, he was not commemorated as War Dead. He would appear to be eligible for War Grave status - if proof of burial can be found.

Does anyone know where this young soldier is buried?  Any help would be most welcome

A bit strange this one, as you say, his death was attributable to war service in Salonika. There was a pension payable to his mother, cause of death being Tuberculosis attributable to service.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission have him recorded in the United Kingdom Book of Remembrance

That explains why I couldn’t even find the death registration: it is registered as Iung.

added: as is his father’s in the same year.

Here is his entry in the 1911 census. The first letter of the surname is clearly different from that of his first name John.

(This was mis-transcribed as IRVING on A******y).

Added: at FindMyPast the father is transcribed as Jung, but all others as Iung!

Indeed. I have been drawing a blank for a long time - until now. Very happy to have been given a breakthrough.
