WW2 pregnant evacuees/expectant mothers Northamptonshire
« on: Thursday 24 October 24 13:55 BST (UK) »
Hello. I am struggling to find any useful information online on pregnant evacuees during WW2.
Does anyone have any information/knowledge on St.John's Hospital, Weston Favell, relating to it being used as a maternity hospital during WW2?
My mother was born there in November 1939 - I believe her mother may have been evacuated there from London shortly before my mother's birth. (She is on the Register with a London address at the end of September). Would it have been used as a maternity home or just as the place of birth? After the birth, were mothers kept at the hospital for safety or moved to host families in the community?
Any pointers or additional info would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Chrissie_DM

Welcome to Rootschat.

There seems to be a lot of people on face**** saying it was a Maternity Home.
One example here.

"I was born in St John’s hospital on Wellingborough Rd in 1945. St John’s was used as a maternity home during wartime."

"My sister was born in 1947 at St John’s nursing home, Wellingborough Rd."

"I was born at St Johns Nursing Home Weston Favell It’s now a residential home I was born 1947"

seahall - thank you for your reply, Sandy. I will definitely take a look. Which page are you looking at to find those comments?

Comberton - very interesting newspaper clip. I'm lucky to still have my mother with me, so she'll be very intrigued to see this. She only found out relatively recently the exact location of her birth. My mother's mother tragically died in 1945 at the age of 27.

Any other info and tips from anyone else out there would be gratefully received!

Chrissie
