Alfred Ernest Clibborn
« on: Sunday 27 October 24 09:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone. I am researching information about Alfred Ernest Clibborn (Son of James Clibborn and Margaret Grubb Murray). He was  born 1852 in Moate, County Westmeath. His spouse was Sarah Ann Amelia Bowling and their children were John and Eva Constance.
Alfred died in British Colombia, Canada in 1937
He was a hemp make and Manger of Old Bentham Mills Spinning Company, Bentham, Yorkshire. Sometime around 1882 he attempted to make the first decent, using ropes, of the very deep Gaping Gill, an unexplored pothole on INgleborough Hill near Clapham.
Does anyone know anything about this, documentary or photographic. Photographs of him?
Any help much appreciated

Welcome to RootsChat.

You have probably seen this reference:

I can't see any mention of the attempt in newspapers of the time, that I have access to.

In 1885 when Alfred and Sarah married in South Dublin, his address stated Bentham, LANCASHIRE, England. Occupation Factory Manager.  Sarah had a Dublin address but also stated Bentham House.  See:-
