That is a great price.

Postage probably about £10 on top.

One thing to note is that Ancestry also has Priority Processing where for £10 you get the sample Fast Tracked through their system.

That said we post UK tests to Ireland where they are bundled and shipped to the Labs in the USA so there is an inherent delay there.

I paid for Priority Processing and from putting the sample in the mailbox until receiving the results took exactly 28 days.

Also on Amazon for £49 if you want it a bit quicker and have Prime, and aren't interested in the £1 for 3 months Worldwide subscription. Otherwise, and if you want more than one kit, getting from Ancestry is the better offer as they reduce postage for extra kits i.e. so 2 kits would be about £95 inc. standard P&P :). From experience, I know even getting siblings of people you have already tested help to make those more distant ancestral connections as siblings inherit about 50% different DNA from the parents. Testing cousins, half cousins and 2nds also help to narrow down shared matches to a specific line.

If you are buying the Ancestry DNA kit for somebody else as a present, who gets the £1 for 3 months Worldwide subscription, you or the person you are sending the kit to?  And does that subscription automatically roll over at the end of the 3 months if you don't cancel it?  If the subscription goes to the other person, can you still easily cancel it at the end of 3 months so it doesn't roll over?

I have just bought one for a sibling, the offer of the £1 sub went to their account and it will have to be cancelled at the end of 3 months.  I do have access to this DNA account as at the moment I am putting on tree details ready for when the results come back so I will cancel the sub before passing it back to them.  The sub should run until the end of the 3 months even if cancelled now

The latest feature allowing you to add matches to your tree from a profile in your tree has just rolled out, it's based on Thrulines (great idea as so many matches have trees and they are all flawlessly researched and backed up with a mountain or sources  ::) ). It also appears you need to have a worldwide sub for it too.

They're going up against MH who have dropped their kit price but Ancestry have a much bigger database that's hard to ignore. Given how much they must be making on protools every month they should be paying us when we order a kit.
