Soar Chapelyard Penygraig
« on: Saturday 09 November 24 09:20 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if a burial record or search exists for this cemetery?

My relative died on Penrhiwfer Road, Williamstown 1906, while visiting relatives. She doesn't appear on the Trealaw search, which is where I thought she was.

Soar is just 1.4km from where she was staying.

Her parents and siblings are interred in Abersychan, I'm unsure if this would be too far for them to have returned her remains to be buried with them.

Miss Elizabeth Holmes, died: 13 Feb 1906 (aged 22)

Many thanks

Hi Arlene

It would be worth contacting Treorchy Library to ask them if any grave survey was carried out before they converted the chapel to the community hub. Since you have a date of death, It's also worth asking them to do a check of Penrhys and Treorchy cemeteries (there may not be a headstone, so may not be on Find a Grave) and maybe having a look in the Rhondda Leader to see if anything about her death was reported. There were also remains re-buried in Penrhys from Nebo chapel and a single memorial erected listing the names of those re-interred. It's on Find a Grave but I can't find it just now. There is also a chapel in Tonyereail which is also not far away, where there are 4 people buried with the surname Holmes.

It is however quite feasible that Elizabeth Holmes may have been taken back to Abersychan to be buried with her family.
