Fordwich, Kent baptisms?
« on: Monday 02 December 24 19:24 GMT (UK) »
Are the Fordwich, Kent baptism records c1826 online?  I am trying to confirm/evidence the "birth" of a George Ellis in 1826 (although he was actually baptized in Chatham, Kent).  I don't think the Fordwich account exists, but I'm up for a challenge!  The parents would be George and Harriet Ellis.  I am aware of the Thomas/Harriet baptisms in Chatham, Kent.  Many thanks.

Hi Josh,

To answer your question:  Yes, Fordwich baptisms are online on FindMyPast.  You will need to have a subscription account in order to access the register.  However, I did take a look for you in the baptisms from 1822 to 1828 and there are no Ellis entries at all.

That null result at Fordwich lead me to try to find the marriage of a George Ellis to a Harriet.  Of the dozen or so there was only one between a George Ellis and a Harriet.  Her maiden surname was Higgs.  The marriage took place at Frindsbury on 21 January 1824, both single and both recorded as being of Frindsbury.

Frindsbury is free to access on CityArk.  The original marriage image is at https://cityark.medway.gov.uk/wwwopacx/wwwopac.ashx?command=getcontent&server=files&value=P150-01-11(1).pdf, page 14 of 47, entry #74.

I have tried to find the family on census but was unsuccessful.  But, hopefully, the Frindsbury lead will help you out.

These are to George and Harriett in Chatham:-

Selina Emma on 2 Mar 1825
George Thomas on 15 Nov 1826
Mary Ann on 25 Dec 1829 buried on 11 Oct 1831
William on 21 Aug 1831 buried on 14 Mar 1832
Sarah Ann on 20 Sep 1833

The 1851 census in Gillingham gives Selina's birthplace as Brompton. Only her and Harriett, a widow. Also has Sarah with her in 1841.

George, b 1794, buried on 21 May 1834
