The more information you can give us to work on, the better.
For example, where was Bernard Mailey born? And which census data do you have, where was he in those censuses, and what is your source for the censuses you have? What was his occupation? Was he married, and if so what were the names of his wife and children?
It might be useful to know that there are few, if any, records of people travelling between Britain and Ireland, as both were part of the United Kingdom until 1922, and movements inside the country were not generally documented.
There seem to be very few records of Bernard Mailey at
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - see screenshot. It doesn't look as if any of those records could be of someone who was born in 1893.
