John DIMENT was baptised at West Chelborough, Dorset on 12 Jul 1795, son of David DIMENT and Betty PATTEN.
On 10 Apr 1823 at Wambrook, Dorset he was married as John DYMOND to Mary PEACOCK. The marriage entry does not have bride and groom status. She signed and he made his mark. They went on to have a number of children born/baptised with surname DIMENT in Uplyme in Devon.
William 1823 died in Uplyme in 1824
Ann 1825
David Patten 1826
William Martin 1828 died in Uplyme in 1829
Charles 1830
George Martin 1831
Joseph 1833
Sidney 1835
Mary is supposed to have died in late 1838 after giving birth to a daughter also named Mary. So far have not found suitable candidates for either due to the possible misspelling of the surname. Probably took place in Uplyme.
On 7 Dec 1840 at Uplyme, John DIMENT married Judith JEFFORD, and in Jan 1841 they left for New Zealand with the surviving children, Ann, David, Charles, George, Joseph and Sidney, plus a 3 year old daughter. The name on the passenger list was DIMOND, which in most cases in NZ became DIAMOND.
Also on the passenger list was a Harriett DIMOND aged 20. Nothing to indicate her being a daughter of John. If she was then he may have been married before Mary and that wife died as well. Or she could be Mary's daughter, or even John's sister. Can't find a suitable candidate for this one either.
Some trees on Ancestry have Mary's maiden name as FITTON, which has come from the death certificate in NZ of one of the children. She may have been Mary FITTON who married a PEACOCK, who died, and then she married John DIMENT. These trees have a baptism date of 8 Feb 1802 in Exeter. There is a Mary Sanders PEACOCK baptised in Exeter on that date, but nothing so far to say they are the same Mary.
Hoping someone can assist in finding these three missing ladies.
Merry Christmas everyone.
