Looking for baptism or birth registration of John Foster Walker.
« on: Friday 27 December 24 20:55 GMT (UK) »
Born about 1842, he is living with Joseph Walker and Eleanor "Ellen" Walker in 1851 at Treeton, Yorkshire.
Joseph Walker 1803-1860
Eleanor 1804-1863 (Maiden name supposedly Williamson from other children's birth registrations)

One GRO index shows a Joseph Foster Walker, 1842, September Quarter in ROTHERHAM UNION. No mother's maiden name listed. I don't think this is the John Foster I'm looking for, because there is an baptized of a John Foster, Aug 1822, in Treeton, to Sarah Walker.

Need help finding his birth registration or baptized record.

Could Sarah Walker be the sister of Joseph, and Joseph & Eleanor bringing him up as their son?

That birth and baptism looks very likely.
Did he marry Harriet Cawthorne in 1864?
On that marriage, it states ‘Illegitimate’ in the ‘father’s name and occupation’ column.

I was just going to post the baptism  of Sarah Anne to Joseph and Eleanor.
John would therefore be their grandson but recorded as son. They may have raised him as such.

possible 1841 census for Sarah as a female servant in a Foster household   ::)

Agree with you on that, heywood. Likely bringing up Sarah's son.

Thank you! Makes a lot more sense.

John must not be the son of James Mercer, otherwise he would've shown in the household of James.
His father must be someone in the Foster household where Sarah was a servant, considering his middle name is Foster.

That birth and baptism looks very likely.
Did he marry Harriet Cawthorne in 1864?

Yes, a John Foster did marry a Harriet Cawthorne, you can find later censuses of them. Just wasn't sure if he was the John Foster I was looking at, as there wasn't a father listed.

The transcription in Family Search should read Brinsworth Grange, not Grave.  It was an isolated farmstead north of Brinsworth village.  Treeton is SE of Brinsworth.  Map c1850
