Margaret and William Merrilees London
« on: Tuesday 07 January 25 20:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm looking for some help in regards to finding my 3x Great Grandmother born Margaret Hunter 15 Aug 1842 Edinburgh, married Alexander Maclagan then after his death married a William Merrilees in 1879 in the 1911 census. William born ABT 1852 Elgin.

William was a compositor and they moved to London. They can be found on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census in London. Margaret died at the Banstead asylum 1916. William Merrilees can be found on the 1921 census living with a new wife Mary Jane Merrilees. Not sure of William's death date.

Merrilees surname is often transcribed very badly on Ancestry.

Many thanks for any help provided

They were living in Finsbury 1921.

There is a death registered Finsbury 1931, September quarter vol 1b page  452

- for William S Merrilees age 82 would be the most likely.

UK, Lunacy Patients Admission Registers, 1846-1921, has Margaret admitted to Banstead in 1910.
She'd be enumerated by initials only in Banstead on the 1911 census.
M M born 1846 is the nearest I can find on free indexes
