Paisley Marriage look up 1887

I am trying to find the marriage details of a John Gorman who married a Mary Gaughan in Paisley on the 19th of February 1887. The marriage is not listed on Scotlands People or in the OPR.  The marriage is only recored on the kids birth records. The majority of the family were all married in Abbey Burgh or St Mirin's around the same decade so it's very odd that this marriage is not recorded? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

There doesn't seem to be a record. I looked at all the Johns of any surname marrying a Mary or Maria in Renfrewshire from 1885 - 1890 and also looked at all the Paisley marriages for 1887. I also looked at all John Gorman marriages in Scotland 1885 - 1890.

Perhaps they never married, but gave a fictitious marriage date when registering their children's births. I have seen this before. Were they from Ireland? I have also seen a couple married in Ireland who gave the place of their marriage as being in Scotland on children's birth certificates.

Do the childrens births record her maiden name as Gaughan?    Just wondered if she was previously married & re-married under her married name (it's called clutching at straws) 😂

If I have the right 1891 entry - both were b Paisley.  On daughter Annie's baptism Mary is shown as Mary Gaughan Gorman.  I suspect they never married

Son Henry was b 1887 Glasgow - mmn Gaughan

Yes on the 1891 Census she is down as being born in Paisley Renfrew, but on all the census after she is down as either Ireland or Mayo, Ireland, and on my Grandfather William's WW2 Army records, she is down as being born in the 'Irish Free State'. On Henry's birth in 1887 she is down as Mary Gorman, MS Gaughan.

Your opening post says marriage was 1887 but birth cert says 1886.  Doesn't really matter as there is no marriage in 1886 anyway🤣

Ah sorry, getting mixed up with Henry's birth & their supposed marriage date! Yes probably a fictitious date, and strangely there is no death certificate for her either in Scotland, or in England. I am at a dead end with her?
