Birth record - unable to find
« on: Monday 20 January 25 13:40 GMT (UK) »
Hi,  I'm having difficulty locating the birth record for William John Sawyers.

Information known so far:
He married Isabella Scott on 22 Nov 1894 at Corrick Presbyterian Church (Upper Bodoney Parish) Strabane, County Tyrone. His residence noted as Drummond and she living in Glencoppogagh, perhaps around Plumbridge

They are living in Glasgow, Scotland according to 1911 and 1921 census.

He died 18 Oct 1952 in Govan, Glasgow. His father is Joseph Sawyers and mother is Eliza Jane O'Donnell.

I'm trying to find William's birth and ideally more information about his parents.

Can you tell us what age he was, when he died in 1952?

Added:
So he was 21 when he married Isabella Scott.

Although an entirely different mother's name, and surname written/indexed as Sayers rather than the Sawyers you are looking for,  it might be worth doing some further checking on the birth of a William John Sayers to a Joseph Sayers and Ann Jane Kee on 14th December 1874 to rule it in or out as a possibility.

This couple look to have been of the following marriage (although she as Keys rather than Kee):

JOSEPH SAYERS
ANN KEYS
06 February 1874

and in 1911

That said, Drumman is a different townland from Drummond, so certainly needs a more in-depth look at the various possibilities.

Barran townland was Joseph's residence when he married in 1874 and where son Joseph was born in 1876-

Thanks all, some great information.

If William's mother is in fact Ann Jane Kee/Key, any ideas why his death certificate shows his mother as Eliza Jane O'Donnell?

Any certificate is only as accurate as the knowledge of the person providing the information. Death certificates, in particular, have the added situation of the grief/stress that person is likely experiencing, which may mean their recall is poor, even if they do know the accurate details, thus resulting in giving wrong one/s.

The death certificate may well be correct, but we have sugested a birth certificate that, given the lack of a more obvious one for your chap that matches the death certificate details, is worth researching further, as it just might be for him after all.
