Queries about the WIER family in Massachusets 1870s-1940s
« on: Tuesday 04 February 25 19:39 GMT (UK) »
Hope you can help please?

I'm looking at Albert Sentell Wier's children.  He was born 1839 in Nova Scotia, Canada, married Matilda Jane Bannister (born in England) in 1867 in Canada, and by the 1890 US census was in Chelsea, Mass.  They had three children: Isabel Mae (1871-1912) Jennie Estelle (1872-? a teacher, did not marry) and Albert E (1899-1945) who married Katherine Jaggi.

Or were there four? There is a Jane Estelle who pops up in the records too, also a teacher, and I wonder if Jennie and Jane are the same person.  There is also a widowed Jane E Wier which is unlikely to be her unless Jane married a Mr Wier.

Isabel M Wier died 6 Nov 1912 and buried 9 Nov New Brunswick, Canada.  There is her will online where she mentions her mother and her sister Jennie.

Albert E died in 1945 with an obit on 10 Sep 1945 in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, but I can only see the main info in a limited transcript stating he was born in Chelsea, Suffolk and died in Manhattan, with a sibling mentioned: Jane Estelle Wier.

Does someone have access the newspaper archives please to check?  I have a FindMyPast sub but that is mainly British papers.

I'd like to find out if Jane and Jennie are the same person.  I can't find any early records of Jane, or later records of Jennie.

Brooklyn Eagle is available for free through the Brooklyn public library's site - https://bklyn.newspapers.com/

If that doesn't work, try www.fultonhistory.com, which has many free papers from Brooklyn & elsewhere.

And that is what led me to the question - is Jane Estelle (clearly Estelle when you read the image) actually Jennie E in previous records? Both teachers.

not unheard of for Jenny/Jennie to be used for someone called Jane so I'd say the same person.

The Massachusetts death index has her death listed as Jane Jennie Wier in Boston in 1948.
