Matthew Henry Johnston/Harry Johnston, death Jan 24, 1943
« on: Monday 10 February 25 20:14 GMT (UK) »
Matthew Henry Johnston aka Harry was the son of Edward Johnston and Susan Spratt. He was born and died in Gloucester Township, Carleton Co., Ontario. Looking for his obituary, date of death Jan 24, 1943, to find out if he was married and/or had children.
thanks for any help

There is an entry on Ancestry Death, Burial, Cemetary & Obituaries but you need a WorldWide sub to view it

You don't give his birthyear.  Have you looked for him on the various Canadian censuses?

The 1931 is on Family Search & shows him as single

Hi CaroleW, thank you. I do have the World Wide Sub so I found his death. I did have his date of birth as 1879 (which was correct) although there are some trees that have 1873 so I left the birthyear out.
I have now found him in 1901, 1911 and 1931. His father Edward died May 18, 1933 and his mother Susan died Nov 14, 1913, both in Leitrim which was Matthew's usual residence in 1943.
I have now found Susan's death certificate on Ancestry and it gives her father as E. Spratt, whereas I have James Spratt. Susan and Edward were cousins before marriage. Her marriage record has James as her father.
I have now found Matthew's  brother James aka James Albert in 1921 with wife Margaret Jane Alexander, 2 daughters and two sons and unnamed father which has to be Edward - wonder why no name.
The youngest son was Cecil on the 1921 census, aka Albert Edward Cecil, age 1, born 1919.
https://www.rootschat.com/links/01tn3/   Cecil died Mar 5, 1981 as Cecil A. Johnston.
