Royal Navy Ratings - Parents
« on: Thursday 13 February 25 12:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have a RN Rating whose service runs from 1866 to 1896. Up until at least 1881 he was unmarried. The record gives what seems a very fixed date of birth of 31st Dec. 1844 in Cork, County Cork. However there are no births/baptisms of around that date. I suspect he lied about his age to get in the navy.

Allotment records which record monies given to relations like mother/wife end seemingly in 1852. His naval record does not record his father or mother.

Are there other naval records which do record a parent ??

many thanks
John

I have a couple of Royal Navy records for boys signing on with their parent's consent. Well, only one parent, the mother. The records came from the National Archives. You'll need to search on your man's name and see what comes up.
