Help Deciphering A Place In Oswestry
« on: Thursday 13 February 25 18:17 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any idea where this place in Oswestry may be:

https://ibb.co/7N8Mv8Fd

John Thomas Roberts of Sidelanck or Sidelank?

Though the firth letter does not always look like an S used on the same page.

This is from a marriage bond in 1897. On the actual marriage the same person is listed as being of Glasgow House, Cross Street.

Thank you. I can't find any mention of any such places in the local paper on BritNewArc.

I agree it looks like Sidelands but, although I grew up in the wider Oswestry area, I have never heard of it.

I think it might well have been misheard or misspelled.

Overnight thoughts~

The only place that comes near to Sidelands  is Selattyn, usually pronounced Silatin. It's to
the NW of Oswestry and close to the Welsh border.  It's a separate  parish.

Alternatively he might have confused Llansillin  - to become Sillinlan(d).Part of this parish is in Oswestry parish

Thank you for the addition. It does seem like the most likely spelling mistake. Though the bride is listed as from Selattyn. And the surrogate was the vicar of Oswestry. It also states Sidelands (?) is in Oswestry Parish.

I have lived in Oswestry for 30 years and have no idea where it might be.

As mentioned the marriage has the groom at Glasgow House and four years later in the census he's on York Street. His father lived at Candy Cottage at the end of the valley.
