Floody history

I'm new to searching for my ancestors.
I have a few details passed on to me by word of mouth but i'm looking for any information or places to go where i might find out more
My grandfather was Denis Floody who died in 1988
I believe his father, also Denis, came from Ireland around the turn of the 20th century.
As far as i know his father was Patrick Floody, born around 1840 and his father was Denis Floody too born around 1814
As far as i know they came from Co. Monaghan in Ireland
Any help or advice would be gratefully received

Denis was b 31.12.1912 & died in Thanet Kent in 1988

Denis was b Newcastle birth reg March qtr 1912 Newcastle on Tyne 10b 366 - see www.freebmd.org.uk

His mothers maiden name was Callaghan

See freebmd - Denis Floody married Susan Callaghan in Newcastle in 1907.  A copy of the marriage cert will confirm the name of Denis's father

1911 census - you need to register which is free.  Note that birthplace is County Monaghan & first child is called Patrick

There's a Patrick Floody born c1836 died 1894 in Anny, Co. Monaghan.

Seem to be more Floodys in Drogheda Registration District than Co, Monaghan.

It seems Charles Callaghan c1848-1915-  Susan's father - was also born  in  Ireland according to the 1881 census. Her mother Elizabeth nee Maxfield 1852 was born Norton Yorkshire.
