TOMLIENS sisters
« on: Tuesday 18 February 25 08:01 GMT (UK) »
Charlotte Matilda TOMLIENS was born 1852, Newington, and Rosa TOMLIENS was born 1854 at Southwark, two youngest daughters of Thomas Henry TOMLIENS and Elizabeth EWERS.

The last sighting I have of Charlotte Matilda is in 1861 St George, Southwark, as Matilda aged 8. Rosa was there as well as Rose aged 6.

Last sighting of Rose is in 1881 in St Mary Magdaline Bermondsey, a barmaid aged 26. Living with her older brother Thomas H TOMLIENS.

Their mother Eliza/Elizabeth died in 1864 and father Thomas H in 1866.

Have seen the surname spelt in a number of different ways - TOMLIENS, TOMLINS, TOMLINES, and possibly others as well.

Hoping someone can assist in finding these two.

Thanks

Thanks Colin.

Did look at that one but she was a 26 year old widow.

Rose TOMLINES was in Hackney in 1871, a 16 year old servant

Thanks, I had seen that one as well but initially discounted it because it said she was born in Hackney.

If as you say both were in the same area then there is a good chance it is her.

Not the Matilda TOMLINS who died in the Hackney Workhouse in 1873. She was 85.

Have found Matilda. She married William CASTELL in 1880. Surname indexed as TOMKINS. Had a couple of daughters. Her brother William TOMLIENS married a Jessy CASTELL.

No sign of Rose yet after 1881.

Wondering if Rose is the Rose TOMLINS who married George WEST in Woodford, Essex in 1883.

Can't find them anywhere after that date.

I subscribed to the ERO and downloaded the marriage. She signed it as TOMLIENS.

It is indexed as TOMLINS, nothing registered for it as TAMLINS.

Rose's father was a Hatter.
