His service record does not appear to have survived, like around two thirds of all WW1 Army records which were destroyed in a fire during WW2. However his medal index card has survived from which we learn that he landed in France on 29 March 1915 and so earned the 1915 Star, along with the British War Medal and Victory Medal.

In case you didn't know, the 1/4th Battalion was a Territorial Battalion so its members were part timers who would have been called up in the Summer of 1914. Here is a brief outline of the Battalion's activities during the war, courtesy of the Long, Long Trail website:
1/4th Battalion
August 1914 : Embodied in Oxford. Part of South Midland Brigade in South Midland Division.
30 March 1915 : landed at Boulogne.
15 May 1915 : formation became the 145th Brigade in 48th (South Midland) Division.
November 1917 : moved with the Division to Italy.

145 (South Midlands) Brigade was in continuous service in France on the Western Front in battles at Albert and in 1916 at Bazentin Ridge, Pozières Ridge, Ancre, all part of the Somme offensive.
You can read a liitel about the battalion's activities in Italy in this Wikipedia article.
