Possible burial?
« on: Monday 03 March 25 21:31 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find a burial of William Hunt who married a Hannah Nattrass in 1833 at Heworth, Durham. Ive got him on the census as:

1841 - Wingate
1851 - South Hetton
1861 - Shadforth

I cant find him in 1871, but can find a burial in Usworth for 1867. Would this be a bit far away? Really struggling with Durham as a county. Would someone be able to help find what happened to him. Durham is by far the hardest county ive researched.

Any help appreciated!
Northants - Stevenson, Smith, Spriggs, Hight, Dodson, Coleman

Yorkshire - Stamper, Boyes, Duke
London - Harper, Wallis
Essex - Shelford, Wallis, Read, Stanes
Hertfordshire - Bishop
Cornwall - Johns, Soper, Rowe, Ball, Webb, Dunn, Quintrell, Hain, Oliver
Gloucestershire - Harper, Ash, Gregory, Denman

Is the William Hunt you’ve found in 1867 the right age?

Usworth is about 14 miles from Shadforth. But there’s no reason why he could have moved from Shadforth to Usworth sometime between 1861 and 1867.

County Durham is no more difficult to research than any other county. And the Durham Bishops transcripts between 1798 and 1812 can be a goldmine of information.

Comparing it to other counties I'm finding Durham quite difficult.

Yes. The death age looks good.

Have you found Hannah in 1871 or did she die before the census?  If she was still alive in 1871 is she shown as a widow?

The William Hunt death in 1867 shows aged 60 - birthyear approx 1807

I can’t see the 1861 entry you mention but the death was registered in Chester Le Street RD - Shadforth came under Durham RD

Assuming I have the right Hannah, she is a widow in 1871:

Collingwood Street, Thornley - RG10/4976/57/38
Hannah Hunt 62 widow, born [?] Head
William Hunt 24 son, widower, miner, born Wingate
William Hunt 8 Grandson born Easington Lane

If William Sr was also a miner then moving around wouldn't be particularly unusual.

One other Hunt burial indexed at Usworth, also in 1867. Susannah Hunt, age 1.
Likely she was the daughter of William Hunt's son Ralph, and his wife Ellen/Eleanor, nee Wilson. Who were also living in Thornley in 1871. Hannah's grandson William, with her in that census, was a son of Ralph?
Perhaps they were moving around together.

Yes. 1871 she is in Thornley with son William and grandson William.

Thanks.

If youre looking using ancestry, the surname has been transcribed as ??T. Theres a William Fenwick living at the address also.
