Yes - my mistake.  It wasn't Free BMD.  Not sure now where it came from - it was years ago that I found William's death but never his birth record.

A distant cousin told me of the will of George Brill some years ago but I didn't have a copy.  I have just ordered one.  There may be helpful information there about the 18th century family.

I have his line back to George Brill in Weston Turville (1711-1800).

Using George as a place to start, I can see that there is indeed a marriage between a George Brill and Elizabeth Goodson in Weston Turville in 1730. According to the bishop's transcripts, their marriage was by licence, which may indicate they were financially better off. Buckinghamshire has not been the best at digitising their records, so there aren't really any images from their parish registers online (unless someone knows otherwise?).

A quick search suggests they had at least 7 children from 1735-1754 (Katherine, Will, George, Mary, Elizabeth, Rebecca and a child whose name is not given on the transcript). It is possible that there is a child missing, as the gap between their marriage and the first child is quite large.

I cannot see a burial in 1800 for George in the county of Buckinghamshire, so I am not sure where this originates.

A George Brill, son of George Brill of Weston Turville in the county of Bucks, husbandman, and Mary, his wife, was born on the 6th September 1711. This comes from the records set "England & Wales, Society Of Friends (Quaker) Births 1578-1841."

Tracing Elizabeth's line, as was your initial request, is a little harder, as I cannot see an obvious baptism for her in Weston Turville. Perhaps she was not baptised, as her parents were non-conformists at the time, or perhaps her baptism hasn't survived or is smudged and illegible. I can't see the register, so I can't assess its condition. She could have also come from another parish, I suppose. Having said that, there was a Goodson contingent in Weston Turville at the time.

This is a useful link:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01toy/

It allows you to search the Bucks Wills database.

There are a few in the right time period, such as:
Joseph   Goodson   Weston Turville    Yeoman   1753
Thomas   Goodson   Weston Turville   Yeoman   1770
Hannah   Goodson   Weston Turville   Spinster   1766

People often mentioned relatives other than their children in wills, such as siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins etc. Perhaps Elizabeth is mentioned in one of these wills, and this could prove a link. If only Bucks would digitise them and put them online for easy access!

There is a death for an Elizabeth Brill in 1791 that could be hers, although unfortunately no other information provided on the transcript.

Queenie  :)

Hello Folks,
I suggest that you contact Dave Cissell on this website.
He had heavily researched the Lord Burghley line and there is a strong possibility that Burghley 'doctored' his genealogy to create a favourable light to his pedigree.
Or PM me and we can also explore your side of the story.
If you search Rootschat you will see plenty of angles explored in the name of the Cecils & Burghley

FindMyPast offers 9 children for Elizabeth Goodson and George Brill.  They have Jane born in 1730 - possible but very soon after their marriage and a son Thomas who appears to have been born in 1754 - also unlikely but possible.  It would mean that Elizabeth was having children for 24 years - again not impossible.  I have found these family history sites to be quite unreliable and offering various alternative bits of information.

I don't really believe in the Cecil connection at all, although it would be nice, but while the Goodsons were  said to be "husbandmen" and the Brills "yeoman", I don't think they were of high enough status to be so related - not unless they came down in the world during the civil war.

My father was Henry George Brill born 1915 in Lambeth, London.  His great grandfather was William Brill born 1823 in Weston Turville, Bucks.  I have William's death certificate, but not his birth certificate.

General Comment
Can't go back further until you have Benjamin Brill's, Marriage image, from the Parish Register? Best to get the whole Parish Register page or opening, at least, to check a witness has not signed other marriages.

The witness/es at the Benjamin Brill, marriage might be a family relative/s and there might be additional useful information?
